Jo Michell is Professor of Economics at UWE Bristol. He has a PhD and MSc in Economics from SOAS, University of London.

His current research interests include macroeconomics, money and banking, income distribution and Brexit. He teaches modules on Banking and Finance and History of Economic Thought.

He has published on macroeconomics and finance in journals such as the Cambridge Journal of Economics and Metroeconomica.

He is currently working on the ESRC-funded Rebuilding Macroeconomics project, "Managing Supercycles: Globalisation and Institutional Change".

He has done consultancy work for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the Federation for Progressive European Studies (FEPS). He co-edited the Handbook of Critical Issues in Finance with Jan Toporowski (Elgar, 2012). He was involved in two large European Commission-funded research projects, AUGUR and FESSUD.

He blogs regularly at criticalfinance.org and has written articles for of publications including the Guardian and Jacobin.  He has appeared on numerous broadcast media platforms including the BBC, ITV, Sky, LBC and Al Jazeera.
